I am still new to growing Holiday Cactus. This includes Christmas Cactus, Thanksgiving Cactus and Easter Cactus. They all are topical Cactus and not desert Cactus. They like more water than a desert cactus. But not too much water so use a well draining soil.
To start new plants you take a clade and root it. Could be done in water, a plastic bag or right into soil,
But first you need to remove some clades.
See the space in between each clade (looks like a leaf connected to another leaf).
First I’ll show what NOT to do. I suggest you do not cut them apart.
The above was cut right in the middle of the clade. When I have done this it rots instead of growing roots.
In this picture you can see a line between the clades. That is where we want to separate them. Best way is to hold on to the two clades, one in each hand and gently twist them apart.
This next photo shows two clades that were gently twisted apart.
The top clade is where the roots will grow.. Bottom clade hopefully is where a new clade will grow.
